Today at the Park

We went to the park this morning to enjoy the "good" weather. Well... to take advantage of cloudy 86 degree weather in June. I've decided we need to appreciate any temperature under 90 since soon we will be begging for 90, even at 90% like today.

Anyway. Ashley learned how to pump her legs and swing herself today. She was very excited to accomplish this before Kindergarten starts.

Laurie also enjoyed herself going down the slide with Ashley and Daniel taking turns with her.

Baby Signs

Laurie started signing to us this last week. The only problem was, we couldn't figure out what she was signing. It finally dawned on me Sunday. She signs "Baby" by crossing her arms at her chest and twisting her torso. (her interpretation of the sign for Baby) When she does it, she also sings something. Well, silly me. What song do we always sing? Baby Signing Time. And when we sing it, I sign Baby Signing Time. That's what she is doing. It is so very cute.

Last night before bed, she gave Brian the sign we use for sleep (not the ASL sign, but her hand on her cheek). Very very cute and exciting. Daniel signed from about a year till 2 1/2. We were saved from grunts and temper trantrums because he would sign what he wanted rather than throw a fit. Hopefully, Birdie will pick it up as well.

Laurie's cousin, Alexander, is signing really well. At his first birthday party Saturday, immediately after they gave him his first bite of cake, he started signing "More". Everyone started laughing. And when he didn't want anymore, he signed "All done". Very very cute.

Munchkin & Wumpy Cooking Show

My kids have a new favorite show - Rachael Ray's 30 Minute Meals. They love it. At dinner, they will take their meal and pretend to create something new and tell us about it. So, today we made muffins and made our own cooking show.
We hope you enjoy it.

Birdie is Walking

This weekend she took her first multiple steps at one time. Now she is walking across the room for a toy. Sorry about taking the video sideways.

Commercials

At the store this weekend, I picked up some Special K Bars on sale hoping they would be good for breakfast. Ashley comes in to help me put away the groceries, sees the new bars and tells me, "Mommy this will make you lose weight." Huh? Like a stupid person, I asked her if Mommy needed to lose weight, to which she said "yes, a little". Ok. She then proceeds to say, "you eat K cereal if you need to lose weight. You eat it and you lose weight." I asked her where she heard that. The classic answer! On TV! Needless to say, we've had conversations today about commercials and their goals of making you think you need their product. I have a feeling this will be an ongoing lessons for many years.

Happy Birthday to You...

Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You, You look like an Elephant, and you Smell like one too. Yes, that is how Daniel sang Happy Birthday to Grandmommy this weekend at her celebration. If you ask him to sing it nicely, he'll change it to a different animal - like a monkey or cow. Which I'm not sure is any better.

Grandmommy was a good sport about his song, and a really good sport when, at Uncle Ron's prompting, Ashley started asking Grandmommy how old she was. Yikes. Daddy warned Ashley we don't ask grownups how old they are on their birthdays. She eventually stopped without an answer to her question.
Daniel just wanted to know why Grandmommy wasn't having a "Dancing with the Stars" birthday party. Evidently, that's what Laurie is having for her 1st birthday this summer, according to him.
All in all, we had a great time for lunch.

Happy Birthday Pat!
