As you know, our oldest daughter has a mind of her own. Yes, it's true. Ashley doesn't do something unless she wants to do it. With that in mind, we haven't worked with her much on reading because whenever we do, it turns into a frustrating nightmare. She loves to do addition and subtration and counting, but is not really interested in reading. So we've left it up to her working on her Leapster & LeapPad and just reading her books.
To make our Summer book reading interesting, I've been reading them books, either I've never read before or they haven't heard before. You wouldn't believe how many we actually have that we've never read.
On a whim, I got out a Step Into Reading Scholastic book I bought last year at a school book fair - Tae Kwan Do. I asked her if she would help me read it. Wow, was I surprised when she read almost every word in that book. You could have knocked me over.
So we went to the library today and got more easy readers that she was interested in. We picked out one called Hop! Hop! Hop! and read it before bed. She read every word in that book except 4 (Plunk, Stump, Around, & Squish).
I am one very proud Mommy tonight!

Um, I believe that Godmother Shelly bought her that Tae Kwon Do book for Christmas. Yup.
Congrats to Miss Ashley- I had a feeling that she would pick it up on her own time. Though I have to laugh she did it without you realizing it.
You should blog that great story about you showing off to Merr about the same age.
