Update on Ashley's Ears

We saw Ashley's ENT last week for a check on her ears. I went into the appointment ready to schedule Ashley's surgery to retube her left ear. When the Dr. came back in after the new hearing test results, he started discussing if we would do both ears or just the left. I asked for clarification on how the hearing test results were compared to last time. Once we started going through all of her history, he started reconsidering the decision to put in tubes again. The hearing test showed she still has hearing loss due to fluid buildup, but it is actually better than it was 2 months ago. Her right ear is still in acceptable range, but a little better. Her left ear has gone from moderate loss to mild loss. After talking about it for a while, (which was difficult while holding the baby and two kids bouncing around the room after an hour stuck in there) the doctor has decided to wait before doing any surgery. He said some kids grow out of their ear problems and she is showing good signs of improvement. So, as long as one ear is good, and she isn't suffering any ill effects of the fluid buildup, we will continue to monitor her progress.
I feel good about this decision. We know what to watch for in the meantime and hopefully she will continue improving with no ear surgery in her future.
