Our Pediatrician decided to have us go meet with a pediatric Cardiologist for Birdie's heart murmurr just to be on the safe side. So we went down to TX Children's Hospital last Monday to meet with a cardiologist with lots of initials after his name. They redid Laurie's chest x-rays and EKG test. After a couple of hours, the Cardiologist came in to look at Laurie and told us what I was expecting - she has an innocent, functioning murmmer and he doesn't ever need to see her again.
I don't mean to seem insensitive, but how many people have to tell us they think it is innocent before we can stop getting opinions? First, the pediatrician said it was innocent, not to worry. Then a year later, she thinks we should get it tested. We get it tested, the results are reviewed by a pediatric cardiologist and it is said to be an innocent murmmer. But then a few months later, we must still go actually see a cardiologist to have them retest her and review the results. Do they know there are actually sick children in the world? Do they realize that some people have to pay for these tests and Dr. visits? Again, I'm thankful that it is innocent, but not really surprised since she's had no other symptions. Innocent murmurrs are quite common.
I know I have at least one friend (Hi Karen) who disagrees with me on my reluctance to have all this testing done, and many more of you will agree with her rather than me. C'est la vie. For now, I'll get off my soapbox - or at least until Laurie tests positive for Thalassemia and we're sent off to see another pediatric Hemotologist like we had to for Ashley.

I'll stand on your soapbox with you! At some point the doctors need to look at the big picture in the child's life and realize that a slight abnormality is not a huge issue. (That, of course, is much different from blindly ignoring a potential problem; but that's not the case with Laurie's murmur.)
Praise God! I am glad everything is well with Laurie!
