All About Me

Someone asked me recently why I never blog about myself - only the kids. Is it wrong to say - cause that's my life? Ok, Ok, I do have a few other things going on. It's just that the kids are so darn cute!

I did realize in June that it was my 5 year Anniversary of being a Stay at Home Mom. June 13, 2003 was my last day at SupportKids and started this crazy life that I now lead. Ashley was 19 months and I was at the beginning of my second trimester of pregnancy with Daniel. My first weekday as a SAHM I had a dentist appointment. Ashley had a runny nose (when did the child not?) so I needed to give her some cold medicine. Well, she was defiant and fought me. When she did, she flipped the plastic chair she was sitting in backwards and hit her head on the tile. After lots of crying and me getting frustrated, we finally got out of the house. As I sat through the traffic lights trying to get on the freeway, it dawned on me, my appointment was in 5 minutes and I still had to drop Ashley off at Pat's house. Needless to say, I didn't make it to my dentist appointment that day. The funny part is, I can't remember what I did instead - did I turn around and go back home? Or did we do something else? I do remember being really upset - this was my first day home and everything went wrong.

Thinking back, that whole first year was such a learning curve for me. It took quite a while to stop slipping in "I'm really an attorney" into conversations at playdates. My world had grown smaller yet larger all at the same time. I had to find my place all over again.
But at the same time, it was one of the best years - I was spending so much time with Ashley and then when Daniel came along everything got even better. We made so many new friends and I became more confident, flexible and spontaneous as a parent.

Life is so different now that Laurie is 23 months and Ashley 6 1/2 and Daniel 4 1/2. There are times when I wish I hadn't been laid off from my great job, but I really believe it was a blessing from God. He knew it was better for me to be home with my babies and it was a decision I was having a hard making on my own.
People ask me if I'm bored yet, or ready to go back to practicing law. Not on your life. Maybe later, but not yet. Who has time to be bored? I feel more busy than ever. There is so much to do (yes, that To Do List popping up again).

Ok, yes something about me - currently... I am always working on a house project (I did get Brian's office finished!), scrapbooking, reading, working on Phi Mu stuff, updating various websites that I am responsible for (have you checked out http://www.alphapichapter.com/ or http://www.phimuhouston.com/), Yoga, craft projects, talking to my girlfriends, volunteering at the school during the school year, being a chauffeur, finding recipes, following politics & certain special issues, listening to talk radio and podcasts and taking pictures of my kids. (I just realized I need to hand someone else the camera once in a while because it is extremely rare to find me in a picture with the kids these days).

This weekend I'm off for a girls' craft/scrapbook weekend at the Ranch. It is going to be great!

Enough about me - Let's get back to the cuties!

This was a GREAT POST! I can't believe you've been home for five years already. How did that happen??

I don't recognize the last photo - you look great, and I love Laurie's pink dress.
